The Women’s Eagles are headed to Paris 2024. While they were ultimately defeated in the Cup Quarter Finals in Hong Kong, the USA’s pool stage results were enough to guarantee a top four finish on the World Sevens Series and with it an automatic qualification spot for the Olympic Games.
Wins over Spain and then Japan did the job, with Kristi Kirshe contributing two tries in each game. France were a step ahead in the final pool match, and a late surge from Fiji sees the Eagles missing out on a podium finish for the first time this season. They will instead take on Canada in the 5th-place Semi Final on Day Three.
For the Canadians it was a second straight Quarter Final appearance though they were ultimately outclassed by overall leaders New Zealand. A disappointing shutout loss to Great Britain was followed by a strong win over Hong Kong. The result was just enough to get them into the Top 8. It was to be their second consecutive match against the Black Ferns, as the Maple Leafs were also soundly beaten in their final pool match.
Brazil’s tournament has already come to a close with an 11th-place finish after beating Hong Kong. They lost all four of their previous matches. Australia, Fiji, and Ireland were the opposition during the pool stage, with Japan overwhelming As Yaras in the 9th-place Semi Final.
