Argentina and USA into Men’s Quarters at Hong Kong

Argentina and the USA will compete in the Men’s Quarter Finals at the Hong Kong Sevens. Both finished the pool stage with two wins out of three, with the Eagles finishing at the top of Pool C by virtue of points differential. Los Pumas were second in Pool A.

A shutout loss to Spain soured the USA’s first match of the tournament on Day One. They recuperated on Day Two, with Perry Baker scoring a double in a one-sided win over Japan and then two more in the victory over Australia. The Eagles will now square off against Great Britain in the last Quarter Final.

Los Pumas will play against New Zealand in the first Quarter Final. They defeated Canada on Day One, and then a brace from Marcos Moneta led the way to victory over Samoa on Day Two. Fiji were the superior side in Argentina’s final pool match, outscoring the Pumas four tries to three.

The Canadians found no success and only two tries scored across three games. Uruguay meanwhile were narrowly beaten by Great Britain and France, and closed out their pool matches on a high with the win over Hong Kong. Los Teros will face Japan to start Day Three with Canada taking on Ireland.
