Benjamín Urdapilleta Obtains Active Point Scoring Record in Top 14

Benjamín Urdapilleta made history in France on Saturday. The Puma became the highest point scorer of active players in Top 14. His five points for Castres against Bayonne saw him overtaking Gaetan Germain to have more points than all other active players in the French elite.

Urdapilleta now has 2166 points while Germain has 2164. In historic terms, the players are both placed very highly; they are ranked 6th and 7th best scorers of all-time in the Top 14.

The leading point scorer is former French test player Richard Dourthe. He played for six different clubs and scored a total of 3040 points. Former Castres fullback Romain Teulet is second with 2612 points. Brock James, Dimitri Yachvili and Jonathan Wisniewski round out the top five.

Urdapilleta is the leading Argentine player of all-time in the Top 14. He is the second best foreigner after Australian Brock James. He may rise further up the all-time positions this season.

Wisniewski scored 92 more points than the current total of Urdapilleta while Yachvili scored 138 more. Both players are now within reach of the Puma. Reaching either player is possible, albeit highly challenging, as seven rounds remain in the 2022-2023 Top 14 season.

Castres are presently tied for 11th position with Pau. The club is in a battle to avoid relegation. The pathway to avoiding relegation will involve scoring a lot of points with goal-kicking being prevalent.
