The 2023 Super Rugby Americas will contain teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the USA. This sees a change to that of the predecessor, the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) which included a team from Colombia.
There will be no Cafeteros Pro in Super Rugby Americas 2023. This is obviously a blow for Colombia; however, there will nonetheless be Colombian players competing in Super Rugby Americas 2023. Os Cobras, American Raptors and Yacare each have Colombians on their rosters.
The American Raptors have two Colombians. They are tight head prop Aldair Marquez and outside back Jhon Arley Urrutia. The latter usually plays on the wing but has played at fullback, including for Colombia.
Os Cobras also have two players from Colombia on their roster. They are Alain Altahona and Diver Ceballos. Both men previously played SLAR for Los Cafeteros Pro. Altahona plays either center or wing while Ceballos usually plays flanker but has the height and skills to also play second-row. ARN considers Ceballos as Colombia’s second best player after Andrés Zafra who plays in the Top 14.
Colombia and Paraguay have built a rivalry in recent years. On the international stage their have exchanged wins with Paraguay gaining revenge over Colombia in 2022. Paraguay’s team for Super Rugby Americas 2023, Yacare contains three Colombians. They are N8 Juan Pacheco, center Juan David Agudelo, and fullback Santiago Gálvez.
