Paddy Ryan opts for Tokyo instead of San Diego

Paddy Ryan won’t be returning to the San Diego Legion after all. The Australian international has opted instead to remain in Japan, signing for the Tokyo Black Rams of League One. Ryan confirmed the change of plans on social media.

“I’m very excited to join the Black Rams for the 2023 Season. This means I won’t be returning to San Diego. A decision which was difficult to make but came down to what was best for me. The Legion were understanding and fair in their handling of my decision and for that I’m grateful.”

The Legion will now have to find another tighthead prop for the upcoming campaign. At the moment Nathan Sylvia is the only experienced No3, having recently made the switch back after spending the best part of four years at loosehead. Fred Apulu has only a few minutes of MLR action at the position while Collegiate Draft pick Oliver Kane has none.
