Free Jacks sign Otago scrumhalf Kieran McClea

The New England Free Jacks have added a third scrumhalf to their roster for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. Kieran McClea has arrived from Otago, joining incumbent starter John Poland and former USA Falcons rep Holden Yungert on the senior squad this year.

McClea has been a standout with the University of Otago in Dunedin and the 24-year-old was called up to the senior NPC squad this past season. In 2021 he made two appearances for New Zealand Universities, and now takes on his first overseas contract.

With Poland and McClea both imports there will be hot competition for the No9 shirt in Boston. Yungert is the only domestic scrumhalf currently on the roster following the departure of Sean Yacoubian to Chicago. The Free Jacks are still to announce two further South Hemisphere recruits.
