Magali Harvey one of three Canadians to join Spanish clubs

Three Canadian internationals have signed on with clubs in Spain. Magali Harvey and Caroline Crossley have joined Olimpico Pozuelo in Madrid, with Sabrina Poulin moving to Eibar Rugby Taldea in the Basque country. The trio will compete in Spain’s elite women’s division, the Liga Iberdrola.

Harvey is the highest profile addition. The 32-year-old was named IRB Women’s Player of the Year in 2014 after a starring performance at that year’s World Cup. Her most recent appearance for Canada was against Wales in 2018.

Crossley was called up to Canada’s World Sevens Series side at the age of just 17 in 2015, with her most recent appearance coming in 2021. Now 24 years old, she typically played as a forward on the shortened code but plays in the backs in XVs.

Poulin was part of Canada’s squad that traveled to New Zealand for the World Cup this past year though she did not make a match day appearance. The 30-year-old winger has previously played abroad in France for Lille Métropole and Stade Rennais.
