Free Jacks sign Hurricanes hooker Kianu Kereru-Symes

The New England Free Jacks have signed 23-year-old hooker Kianu Kereru-Symes for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. He arrives from Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand, having captained his country at the 2019 World Rugby u20 Championship.

Kereru-Symes broke into the senior Magpies squad as a teenager during the 2018 NPC campaign. He has remained a regular in their lineup since, and earlier this year joined the Crusaders squad. After one preseason appearance he switched to the Hurricanes and started two Super Rugby games.

New England now boast three hookers of starting quality with Canadian international Andrew Quattrin arriving from the Arrows and Mills Sanerivi returning. Foster DeWitt, another Canadian, is a fourth option if needed though he will focus on loosehead prop this season.
