Morgan Mitchell among three new props for Houston

Morgan Mitchell is headed back to Major League Rugby, but not to the Toronto Arrows. The fan favorite is one of three props from New Zealand who have signed on the with the Houston SaberCats, along with Rob Cobb and Fatongia Paea.

A tighthead specialist, Mitchell starred with the Arrows during the 2019 MLR campaign but he then took up a contract with Kamaishi Seawaves in Japan. He returned to Southland in the NPC and was their starting No3. The 29-year-old replaces Juan Pablo Zeiss as Houston’s top tighthead, the Argentine having been traded to the Dallas Jackals.

Cobb and Paea are both 23 years old, born one day apart, and loosehead specialists. Cobb represented New Zealand at the 2018 and 2019 World Rugby u20 Championships, and plays provincially for Waikato. He has one Super Rugby appearance with the Chiefs on his resume. Paea debuted with Auckland in 2020 but was a starter with North Harbour this past season.
