Charlie Abel among three forwards confirmed by Hounds

The Chicago Hounds have confirmed the addition of three more forwards ahead of their inaugural Major League Rugby campaign. Headlining is former LA prop Charlie Abel, with second row Sam Peri and ex-Old Glory back row Dacoda Worth also committed for 2023.

Abel, 30, has been a leading figure for the Giltinis over the past two seasons. The powerful ball carrier starred for the club during their title-winning 2021 season and appeared in all but one match during this past year. Primarily a tighthead, Abel can also pack down on the loosehead side if needed.

Peri, who stands 6’6″ (1.98m), earned High School All-American honors but faded from the elite rugby picture for several years before re-surfacing with San Diego in 2018. The 28-year-old played just two matches for LA in 2022 and will be looking to make a more significant contribution in Chicago.

It’s a return to the Midwest for Worth, who is originally from Indianapolis. He has been with Old Glory since their exhibition campaign in 2019 and made four appearances this past year. A versatile loose forward, the 31-year-old played for Army at the RugbyTown 7s.
