World Rugby confirms two Challenger Sevens events in 2023

South Africa will host two tournaments in April that will help determine a new core team for the 2023-2024 World Sevens Series. Next year’s Challenger Series will see a dozen teams in each of the women’s and men’s competitions that will be played at Markotter Stadium in Stellebosch.

The stakes are higher for the women’s teams. Success over the April 20 and April 28 weekends will earn an automatic spot on the circuit next season. For the men, victory guarantees only a spot in a four-team qualifier tourney to be played during the final round of this season’s World Series.

Three teams will represent the Americas in the women’s bracket. Colombia and Mexico will be joined by a second South American team. The other teams will be Belgium, China, Czechia, Hong Kong, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Poland, South Africa, and Thailand.

In the men’s bracket will be Brazil, Chile, and Jamaica. They will be competing against Belgium, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Papua New Guinea, South Korea, Tonga, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
