US-eligible Canterbury hooker Shilo Klein joins San Diego

The San Diego Legion have announced the signing of hooker Shilo Klein for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. He arrives from New Zealand and represented the Baby Blacks at the 2019 World Rugby u20 Championship, but remains US-eligible having been born in Sacramento.

Klein is just 23 but already has four seasons of provincial rugby with Canterbury on his professional resume. Earlier this year he made his Super Rugby debut, making five appearances as a replacement for the Crusaders during the 2022 campaign.

The signing of Klein returns San Diego to a full compliment of three hookers, each boasting international age-grade honors. Sama Malolo represented Australia u20 while Sean McNulty played for Ireland u20. The latter is also US-eligible via cumulative residency.
