The Chicago Hounds have signed blindside flanker Mike Matarazzo for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. He makes the move north from the Dallas Jackals, having spent the 2021 season with Rugby ATL after being selected in the 1st round of the 2020 Collegiate Draft.
Matarazzo enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2022, playing in 14 of 16 games for Dallas. Most of his 13 starts were in the No6 shirt with three coming at lock. The 24-year-old then traveled to Montevideo with the USA Falcons for a second straight year.
The 6’5″ (1.96m) Matarazzo is an imposing figure in the lineout who joins fellow Falcons select Michael de Waal in Chicago’s back row stable. de Waal is yet to be formally announced by the club, with Matarazzo just the fourth official signing to date following Bryce Campbell, JP Eloff, and Chris Mattina.
