Chicago signs USA Falcons fullback Chris Mattina

The Chicago Hounds have signed versatile back Chris Mattina for their inaugural Major League Rugby campaign. A USA Sevens international, he recently toured South Africa with the USA Falcons and was part of the Eagles squad for the World Cup Qualifiers but has yet to win a test cap.

Mattina is originally from Manhattan and played with New York for three seasons before joining Austin in 2022. The 29-year-old appeared in a dozen matches for the AG’s, starting seven. He was then acquired by the Hounds in the Dispersal Draft.

Capable of playing across the backline, Mattina is set to occupy his preferred No15 shirt for Chicago. He is also a capable flyhalf and right-footed goal kicker. Mattina follows a similarly versatile player, JP Eloff, in joining the expansion side. Former AG captain Bryce Campbell has also been signed.
