San Diego acquires Christian Poidevin, re-signs Thomas Morani

The San Diego Legion have acquired the rights to former LA flanker Christian Poidevin, while also announcing a contract extension for midfielder Thomas Morani. Poidevin was selected by Rugby ATL in the Dispersal Draft. The Ratlers will receive salary cap considerations in exchange.

An openside specialist, Poidevin made 28 appearances for the Giltinis across the past two seasons including every game during the 2022 campaign. The 24-year-old Australian is US-eligible through his mother. His father is former Wallabies great Simon Poidevin, who won the 1991 World Cup alongside Phil Kearns and Tim Horan. Remarkably their sons, Finn Kearns and Alex Horan, recently signed on with San Diego for the 2023 Major League Rugby season.

Morani was raised in Argentina but qualifies for the USA by virtue of being born in Miami. The 27-year-old outside center was in impressive form for the Legion in 2022, his second season with the club, before a knee injury ended his campaign early. He will look to press his claims for Eagles select in 2023 amidst a plethora of talent in the San Diego backline.
