Long-time NOLA Gold star JP Eloff will be playing for a new team in the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The 31-year-old USA international has been acquired by the expansion Chicago Hounds in exchange for salary cap considerations. Primarily a fullback, he is also comfortable at flyhalf and inside center.
Eloff missed the entirety of the 2021 season with a knee injury but returned to make 13 appearances with the Gold in 2022. A member of the one of MLR’s founding teams since their inception, he departs New Orleans with 36 appearances, all but four of them starts.
Originally from South Africa, Eloff has prior connections to the Midwest. He was a three-time 1st team Collegiate All-American at Davenport University in Michigan before playing club rugby with the Chicago Lions. In 2016 Eloff suited up for the Ohio Aviators in PRO.
