Elias Ergas has been called into the Canadian squad for this weekend’s World Sevens Series event in Cape Town. The 24-year-old replaces the injured Cooper Coats in the only change to Sean White’s roster. Canada’s Men finished in 14th spot in Dubai, White’s first event in charge of the side.
A speedy outside back, Ergas was part of the team that competed in the opening round of this year’s Series in Hong Kong last month. He made his World Sevens debut at Vancouver in September 2021 and appeared in all nine events of the 2021-2022 season.
The Women’s squad also missed out on the Cup Quarter Finals, ultimately landing in 10th spot. That was despite the return of Olympic veterans Charity Williams and Julia Greenshields. Jack Hanratty’s roster shows no changes ahead of the second event on this year’s circuit.
Canada’s Women will compete in Pool C along with France, Japan, and the USA. The Men are in Pool A with opening round matches against France, Fiji, and hosts South Africa. CBC Sports will stream the three-day tournament online beginning on Friday.
