Experienced lock Tom Franklin returns to San Diego

Tom Franklin is headed back to Southern California. The 32-year-old will return to the San Diego Legion for a second Major League Rugby season, after spending the past year in Japan. He has previously represented both the New Zealand u20s and Māori All Blacks.

Initially arriving late in the 2021 season, Franklin started five games for the Legion before re-joining the Kobelco Steelers in Japan’s League One. His resume includes six Super Rugby campaigns with the Highlanders and eight seasons in the NPC first with Otago and then Bay of Plenty.

San Diego now have three formidable lineout exponents as second row options for 2023. Ben Grant will return for a second season, while Isaac Ross has been signed from the Austin Gilgronis.
