Seattle signs former Austin prop Mason Pedersen

Mason Pedersen has put pen to paper with the Seattle Seawolves. The 26-year-old prop was selected by the 2022 Major League Rugby finalists in the first round of the Dispersal Draft and has now committed to the 2023 campaign after spending the past five years in Texas.

After starting his professional career with the San Diego Breakers in PRO, Pedersen joined the Austin franchise ahead of the inaugural 2018 campaign. Across five seasons he made 48 appearances, 13 in 2022, with 33 starts. Pedersen played for the USA u20s in 2016 and was later that year called up to the USA Selects (now Falcons), but is yet to achieve full test honors.

A tighthead specialist, Pedersen complements incumbent starter Sam Matenga on the right side of the scrum. He acts as a direct replacement for long-time Seawolves stalwart Tim Metcher who has now departed. The third tighthead option is Collegiate Draft pick and local product James Kuahiwinui.
