Free Jacks secure Canadian international Ben LeSage

The New England Free Jacks have secured Canadian center Ben LeSage for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. His rights were acquired in the Dispersal Draft after the after the LA Giltinis were disbanded. It’s the third MLR side for the 27-year-old, having formerly starred with the Toronto Arrows.

LeSage was a key addition for the Giltinis ahead of the 2022 season. He would start a dozen games as the first choice in the No13 shirt for the club, missing only four games due to injury. The Calgary native acted as vice-captain for Canada in each of their four tests this year.

New England now boast three centers of starting quality with incumbent duo Le Roux Malan and Wayne van der Bank both returning. Malan made his test debut for Namibia in November, and lined up across from LeSage in his second cap. Further backline reinforcements are expected in the coming days.
