San Diego signs Australian loose forward Finn Kearns

San Diego have signed another youngster with links to Australian rugby. After announcing Alex Horan just a few days ago, the Legion have now confirmed the addition of Finn Kearns for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. He is the son of Phil Kearns, who alongside Tim Horan claimed World Cup glory with the Wallabies in both 1991 and 1999.

The younger Kearns is 23 years old and has yet to make his professional debut. Unlike his father, Finn is a loose forward who is equally comfortable at openside flanker and No8. He arrives from Randwick in Sydney, where he has played for the 2nd and 3rd-grade sides. In 2018 he represented Sydney in the national u19 championship.

According to the Legion, Kearns was initially meant to arrive during the 2022 season but was unable to obtain a visa in time. He is the fourth back rower named by the club thus far for the upcoming campaign. Former Scotland international Blair Cowan and Tonga u20 select Tupou Afungia are new arrivals with Eagles No8 Tevita Tameilau returning.
