Chile win 2022 South American 7’s title in Costa Rica

Chile are the 2022 South American 7’s champions. Los Cóndores 7’s won the title by defeating Argentina 21-12 in the final. This was after a comprehensive 29-5 Semi Final victory over Paraguay. Brazil defeated Paraguay 29-12 to win the Bronze Final.

The Costa Rica Sevens was a seven team tournament. Six South American countries competed in the Central American Republic on Saturday and Sunday. They were Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The champions had a memorable tournament. On day one Chile defeated Uruguay 35-26 and Argentina 22-14. Argentina recovered to beat Uruguay 33-7 and Venezuela 21-7. Los Pumas 7’s then reached the final after downing Brazil 31-26. Paraguay sealed their place in the Semi Finals with a 17-12 upset win over Uruguay.

The competition also included the Copa Challenge. Uruguay overcame Venezuela 29-22. Venezuela subsequently competed to a 14-14 draw with Costa Rica. Uruguay hammered Costa Rica 57-0 to win the Copa Challenge Final.

Day One saw Brazil qualifying for the 2023 Pan American Games. In doing so, Brazil claimed the eighth and last remaining spot at Santiago 2023. Brazil will join Argentina, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, Mexico, Uruguay, and the USA.
