Greenshields and Williams return for Canada in Dubai

Canada welcomes back two Olympic veterans to the roster for Dubai next weekend. Julia Greenshields and Charity Williams return after an extended absence since Tokyo. The duo are selected for the first time under head coach Jack Hanratty.

The 13-strong traveling party also features record try scorer Bianca Farella, and will be co-captained by Olivia Apps and Breanne Nicholas. Apps was a late call-up to the 15s World Cup squad in New Zealand but did not make a match-day appearance. Rising star Krissy Scurfield is named along with one newcomer in Abbotsford’s Shalaya Valenzuela.

Dubai is the first stop of seven on this year’s World Series, which doubles as an Olympic Qualifier. Canada finished 7th this past season, and will be aiming for a top-four finish to earn automatic qualification to Paris 2024. The two-day tournament begins on December 2. Canada have been drawn in Pool A along with Australia, China, and the USA.
