New York retains Charlie Hewitt, signs Kiwi prop Sam Davies

Rugby New York have retained lock Charlie Hewitt for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. Joining him in the tight five is tighthead prop Sam Davies, who arrives from New Zealand.

Hewitt, 27, made 16 appearances during the 2020 campaign including 11 starts. He was part of an impressive rotation in the second row that included Will Tucker, Nick Civetta, and club captain Nate Brakeley. A former England u18 select, Hewitt represented the USA at senior ‘A’ level in 2021 and is now aiming for full Eagles honors.

Davies is just 20 years old but has already played four senior games with North Harbour in the National Provincial Championship. The Auckland native plays his club rugby with North Shore in Devonport. He joins fellow New Zealander Tevita Langi in the move to The Big Apple.
