San Diego extensions for Tevita Tameilau and Matías Freyre

The San Diego Legion have confirmed contract extensions for No8 Tevita Tameilau and fullback Matias Freyre. It will be the 4th season with the Legion for Tameilau, who began his Major League Rugby career with Utah. Freyre moved to California from Houston ahead of the 2022 season.

Tameilau was a dominant ball carrier off the back of the scrum for the Legion this past year. The 32-year-old played in all but one game and scored four tries. His strong form earned a recall to the Eagles squad for the World Cup Qualifier series against Chile in July.

Freyre, 28, played 15 of 17 games including a dozen starts. He provided cover across the back three and scored a team-leading six tries, while also proving a useful goal kicking option in the absence of Will Hooley and Joe Pietersen. A Pumas Sevens international, Freyre is US-born and is now Eagles-eligible through the union transfer regulation.
