Former Utah hooker Sama Malolo signs with San Diego

Sama Malolo will return to Major League Rugby in 2023. The hard-charging hooker has signed on with the San Diego Legion, having previously spent two seasons with the Utah Warriors.

After featuring just twice during the shortened 2020 campaign, Malolo scored a remarkable 11 tries in 10 appearances as he helped Utah reach the Western Conference Final in 2021. He returned to Australia and was part of the Waratahs extended squad earlier this year before starting every game for Southern Districts in the Shute Shield.

The former Australia u20 representative is the third hooker on San Diego’s books for the upcoming season. US-eligible Sean McNulty, who played for Ireland at u20 level, was acquired from the Seattle Seawolves while new USA Falcons select KoiKoi Nelligan was selected in the Collegiate Draft.
