Ryan Matyas set to play sixth season for San Diego Legion

Ryan Matyas will play a sixth season in San Diego Legion colors. The 31-year-old has re-signed for the 2023 Major League Rugby campaign. He announced his retirement from international rugby earlier this year after representing the USA in 14 tests and on the World Sevens Series.

This past season saw Matyas playing a supporting role for San Diego. He made 13 appearances with 5 starts, mostly on the right wing. Also comfortable at outside center, Matyas showed his versatility by filling in admirably at scrumhalf in two matches this year.

San Diego have amassed an impressive group of outside backs for 2023. In addition to Matyas, the team has re-signed Tomas Aoake and welcomed back Mikey Te’o after a two-year stint with Utah. Newcomers revealed to date are Eagles fullback Marcel Brache and ex-Canterbury winger Filimoni Waqainabete.
