Uruguay closed out their first tournament as a core team on the World Sevens Series with a 13th-place finish in Hong Kong. Their record was an encouraging three wins from six, including a victory over Great Britain in the pool stage.
It was a difficult start for Los Teros with shutout loss to South Africa and a heavy defeat to France, with Koba Brazionis the only try scorer. Their moment would come in the third match against Great Britain.
A hat trick from Alec Coombes put the Brits ahead with two minutes to play. After several phases from a lineout set move, Ignacio Álvarez broke through the middle with seconds to play to level the scores. Guillermo Lijtenstein chipped over the conversion to give Uruguay their first win with core status.
