Brex scores in big Italian win over Samoa

Italy were handsome winners over Samoa on Saturday afternoon in Padua. Argentine Juan Ignacio Brex was among the try scorers in what was a dominant 49-17 home win for Italy.

Brex scored the game’s first try. The Argentine center broke the line and stepped to beat a defender. The try was Brex’s first for Italy. It was quickly followed by a try assist; Brex made a half-break to create what culminated in a try to Monty Ioane.

Brex departed Argentina for Italy in 2015. He did so after having played for Los Pumitas, Los Pumas 7’s and the Argentina XV. With places at the Jaguares hard to come by, a professional call came from Viadana. In 2017 he completed the rise to the Pro 14, joining Benetton.

Having played Sevens for Argentina and also for the Argentina XV, Brex was attached to Argentina. However, in 2019 Brex competed for Italy Sevens in an Olympic Qualifying tournament. In doing so, his attachment to Argentina was removed, making him free to represent Italy whom he qualifies for via residency and ancestry.
