Tomas Aoake re-signs with San Diego after Auckland stint

Tomas Aoake has committed to a second season with the San Diego Legion. The hot-stepping winger has re-signed with the club for 2023 after spending the Major League Rugby off-season playing with Auckland in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship.

Visa delays saw Aoake missing the first seven weeks of the 2022 campaign but he started every game upon arrival. The 27-year-old spent most of his time on the left wing but also appeared at outside center with one start in the No13 shirt. In 10 appearances he scored 4 tries.

Aoake will have some new teammates in the San Diego backline this season. Mikey Te’o is returning to California after two seasons with Utah, and Luke Burton is back from LA. Marcel Brache has signed on from Austin with former Canterbury winger Filimoni Waqainabete arriving from Fiji.
