The Utah Warriors have signed Danny Giannascoli for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. It’s a return of sorts for the 25-year-old flyhalf, who was selected by the Warriors in the second round of the 2020 Collegiate Draft and played one preseason game in 2021.
Despite impressing in the start against Rugby ATL, Giannascoli departed the team shortly after and has yet to make his regular season MLR debut. The two-time NSCRO All-American has since starred for division 1 club side Schuylkill River and also turned out for regional select side Philadelphia United.
The 6’2″ (1.89m) Giannascoli can also play fullback and features a strong left boot. He is set to understudy new arrival Joel Hodgson at Utah with last season’s duo of Caleb Makene and Cliven Loubser also returning to Salt Lake. Makene is poised to shift to fullback in 2023.
