Matt Tierney joins Pro D2 side Provence on loan

Canadian international Matt Tierney has joined French Pro D2 side Provence with immediate effect. The 26-year-old has been assigned to the club on a one-month loan from Castres Olympique. Tierney has yet to make a Top 14 appearance this season.

Though technically classed as a medical joker, Tierney is effectively providing tighthead prop cover at Provence for other international call-ups. Luke Tagi and David Lolohea will play for Fiji and Tonga respectively in November. The deal was facilitated by former Pumas prop Mauricio Reggiardo, the current manager of Provence who was previously in charge of Castres.

Canada have yet to name their senior squad for tests against the Netherlands and Namibia in Amsterdam, but Tierney is now certain to be absent from the list. He last suited up for the Maple Leafs in last year’s World Cup Qualifying series against Chile.
