Ryan Nell and Joaquín de la Vega Mendía depart Rugby ATL

Rugby ATL have confirmed two more departures ahead of the 2023 Major League Rugby season. Center and co-captain Ryan Nell ends a three-year stay with the Ratlers, while fullback Joaquín de la Vega Mendía has returned to Argentina after just one MLR campaign.

Nell played every game of the shortened 2020 season but then suffered a serious knee injury that restricted him to just four appearances in 2021. This past year he returned to play 14 games though he lost his starting role towards the end of the campaign. It’s unclear where the 32-year-old South African will be playing next.

de la Vega Mendía was a highly anticipated signing for 2022 having previously represented his country at age-grade level. The 23-year-old delivered 74 points in 13 games, all starts, and proved a constant threat on the counter-attack. He has now returned to his home club of Hindú and recently appeared for the Argentina XV against their counterparts from Uruguay and the USA.
