Rugby Canada have confirmed their traveling roster for the upcoming Hong Kong Sevens. It’s the first World Series stop at the famous venue since 2019, with pandemic restrictions causing the cancellation of the even in each of the last two years.
The 13-man squad includes one new player. Peterborough, Ontario, native Kal Sager is set to debut at the age of 21. The former Trent University standout is a dual-citizen and was previously invited to train with the USA u20 side, but has now committed his future to Canada.
D’Shawn Bowen, Josiah Morra, David Richard, and Alex Russell make the immediate switch back to the shortened code after playing for Canada ‘A’ in Brazil. Notably absent is Cooper Coats, suggesting the Nova Scotian will instead be traveling with the test side to Amsterdam next week.
This season’s circuit doubles as an Olympic Qualifier, with the top four teams automatically booking their spot for Paris 2024. Canada have been drawn in Pool D for Hong Kong, alongside Argentina, Ireland and Kenya. The three-day event begins on November 4.
