Toronto Arrows sign Irish international midfielder Noel Reid

The Toronto Arrows have signed Irish international Noel Reid for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. He arrives from English Premiership side London Irish, boasting over a decade of experience at the highest levels of European rugby.

Reid, 32, played for Ireland’s u20 side before making the jump to Leinster’s senior squad in 2011. He would spend eight years with the Dublin side, then signed a one-year deal with Leicester Tigers in 2019. An 18-month stay with Agen in the French Top 14, and then Pro D2, ended in February.

Best known as an inside center, Reid was primarily a flyhalf for Leicester in the Premiership and is comfortable at both positions. He won a solitary test cap for Ireland as a replacement against Argentina in 2014. Reid also played several matches for Emerging Ireland in the Tbilisi Cup competition.

The Arrows are set to utilise Reid in the midfield alongside Australian arrival Nic Benn. Last season’s first choice pairing of Spencer Jones and Ueta Tufuga have both moved on, though the versatile three-quarter Mitch Richardson has been retained.
