Men’s Eagles 7s player pool named for World Series

Men’s Eagles coach Mike Friday has confirmed a 21-man player pool for the upcoming World Sevens Series. The group will take up residency at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista.

Included are two players yet to make their Series debuts, Jake Lachina and Sam Walsh. The former has been part of the training group previously while Walsh joins the squad after a standout collegiate career with the Cal Golden Bears.

Maka Unufe will also make a full-time return to sevens after spending the past season with the Houston SaberCats in Major League Rugby. Meanwhile both captain Kevon Williams and vice-captain Joe Schroeder remain in recovery mode from injury and will miss the opening stop of the season, with a targeted return of Dubai in December.

The most notable absentee is Carlin Isles, who has now stepped away from international rugby. Logan Tago and D’Montae Noble meanwhile have shifted back to the 15-a-side game. Tago will re-join the Utah Warriors in MLR while Noble is currently playing for Houston’s academy side Rugby HTX.

Hong Kong will make its long-awaited return to the circuit on November 4, the first event of the 2022-2023 campaign. This year’s circuit will double as an Olympic Qualifier with the top four teams earning their ticket directly to Paris 2024.
