Pumas Props On the Market Following Worcester and Wasps Downfall

The 2022-2023 English Premiership season is beyond crisis point. The Worcester Warriors were suspended on September 26 and and the Wasps went into administration today. In the space of 21 days the English Premiership has changed from 13 teams to potentially 11. The Wasps will be relegated this season; that is if they play out the campaign.

Players from the Worcester Warriors are moving on and Wasps’ athletes are facing the same scenario. Among those on the market are Pumas. Santiago Medrano signed to join the Worcester Warriors this season from Super Rugby. He was unable to play a match.

Medrano is now with the Argentina XV in Uruguay preparing for matches against the Uruguay XV and the USA Falcons. Injury prevented him from playing in the Rugby Championship this year. It meant that a regular under Mario Ledesma is yet to add to his 27 caps in 2022.

The playing future of another Pumas prop is up the air. Rodrigo Martínez is into his second season with the Wasps. He has 3 caps for Argentina but injury has also seen him missing out on Los Pumas’ matches thus far in 2022. When he will next play again and in which competition is now a matter of speculation.

In the event that the Wasps are able to find the resources they require to remain in the 2022-2023 season then Martínez may remain at the club. The collapse of the Worcester Warriors and the Wasps come at a time with both Medrano and Martínez being in the conversation for Los Pumas’ tour to England, Scotland and Wales in November.
