France scrumhalf out of World Cup through injury

France have been hit with the loss of their top scrumhalf for the remainder of the World Cup. Laure Sansus ruptured ligaments in her knee during the 13-7 defeat to England on Saturday. It not only brings an end to her campaign, but also her international career. The 28-year-old from Toulouse declared before the tournament that this would be her last involvement with Les Bleus. Blagnac’s Marie Dupouy has been summoned as a replacement.

Scotland have also lost a starter, as fullback Chloe Rollie underwent surgery to repair a broken arm suffered against Australia. The Scots were on the short side of a narrow 14-12 result against Australia and as a result are now likely to miss out on the Quarter Finals. A replacement has not been called to New Zealand with the Scots to face the Black Ferns this weekend.

A red card for a high tackle late in the same game to Ashley Marsters saw the Australian hooker in front of a judiciary. The officials determined that direct contact to the head was made and upheld the call, but Marsters did not agree with the decision. Pending appeal, she has been suspended for three weeks which could be the end of her tournament.

Another Australian hooker, Adiana Talakai, was also red-carded in that game after receiving two yellows. The panel agreed that no further sanction was required. Front rowers Vika Matarugu of Fiji and Donna Rose of Wales were both cited after their games and will have disciplinary hearings tomorrow.
