John Poland commits to 4th season with Free Jacks

John Poland will play a fourth Major League Rugby season with the New England Free Jacks. The 25-year-old scrumhalf has committed to the last of his three-year deal signed in August of 2020.

Since arriving ahead of New England’s inaugural MLR campaign, Poland has been one of the club’s most influential players. The former Ireland u20 representative played all 16 games in 2022, 14 of them starts, while also providing a useful third goal-kicking option behind Beaudein Waaka and Mitch Wilson.

All three senior scrumhalves from this past season are already contracted for 2023. Holden Yungert was the primary backup for Poland, while Sean Yacoubian played just one game for medical reasons. Zachary Short dressed for two games on loan from Houston and played once before returning to the SaberCats.
