Utah Warriors sign Otago hooker Henry Bell

The Utah Warriors have signed hooker Henry Bell for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. He joins from New Zealand, where the 23-year-old enjoyed a breakout NPC campaign with Otago.

Bell had seven first class appearances for the Razorbacks across his first two seasons, but this year claimed the No2 shirt as his own. He started 8 of 10 matches and scored 4 tries. This past weekend Bell lined up opposite younger brother George, who plays the same position for Canterbury.

It’s a direct replacement for one-time Eagles hooker Chad Gough, who opted to retire at the end of the 2022 MLR season. Fijian international Tuvere Vugakoto and USA Selects tourist Joey Backe are the other two hookers in the squad. Canada’s Andrew Quattrin was briefly acquired from Toronto, but then traded to New England a week later.
