Junior Sa’u returning for second season with Old Glory

Junior Sa’u will return for a second Major League Rugby campaign with Old Glory DC. The 35-year-old New Zealander recently spent several weeks playing for English rugby league side Keighley Cougars following the end of the MLR season, and now switches his focus back to rugby union.

An international for both New Zealand and Samoa in the 13-man code, Sa’u won Old Glory fans over this season with his powerful ball carrying and hard-hitting defense. He played 15 games including 13 starts and tied with Peni Lasaqa for the team lead with 9 tries scored.

What jersey number Sa’u wears in 2023 remains to be seen. After spending the first half of the 2022 season at inside center, he started five games in the second half on the left wing. Sa’u joins midfielders William Talataina and Fermín Martínez on DC’s confirmed list for 2023.
