Uruguay confirms senior ‘A’ series against USA and Argentina

Uruguay will host a three-match international series including the second-senior (‘A’) sides of the USA and Argentina. All three matches will be played at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo between Tuesday, October 13, and Friday, October 23.

The series is effectively taking the place of the Americas Pacific Challenge, which last year saw six teams scheduled to play three games each. This year it seems the participants have been split into tiers, with Brazil hosting Chile and Canada in Mogi das Cruzes on the outskirts of São Paulo.

While the matches do not count towards World Rugby Rankings and test caps will not be awarded, the matches will be considered binding. Last season saw APC teams primarily composed of under-23 players, but as of yet there is no indication that it will be the case this year.

The USA’s senior-senior side has now officially been renamed the ‘Falcons’, having previously been called the ‘Selects’ or ‘Select XV’. At the same time a separate USA side, featuring a mix of first and second choice players, will travel to South Africa to play against the Cheetahs and Pumas. Both are provincial outfits.
