The late Kathy Flores is to be inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame. She is one of six names, all women, confirmed by the governing body with the ceremony to coincide with the World Cup Semi Final at Eden Park in Auckland on November 5.
Flores is recognized for her accomplishments as both a player and coach. She captained the USA in their first ever international in 1987 and played in two World Cups, famously winning the inaugural women’s edition in 1991. After hanging up the boots Flores coached the Eagles from 2003 until 2011, finishing 5th at each of RWCs 2006 and 2010.
In October of last year Flores died from illness at the age off 66. She will become the third USA international in the Hall of Fame, following Patty Jervey (2014) and Phaidra Knight (2017). The 1920 and 1924 USA Olympic Teams were inducted in 2012.
Others in the Class of 2022 include former Black Ferns captain Fiao’o Fa’amausili and four pioneers who organized the 1991 tournament in Wales. They are Deborah Griffin, Sue Dorrington, Alice Cooper, and Mary Forsyth, all from England.
