The New England Free Jacks have re-signed Fijian winger Paula Balekana for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. It will be his second season with the team, having joined ahead of the 2022 campaign after making the move from the Houston SaberCats.
Balekana was an instant hit with the Free Jacks, carrying on his sharp form shown in Texas. The former Zebre flyer started 12 games and scored 6 tries, second-highest on the team behind co-leaders Beaudein Waaka and Slade McDowall.
Capable of playing across the outside backs, Balekana was equally at home on the left or right wing for the Free Jacks. He took over the starting No11 shirt when Harry Barlow was injured part-way through the campaign. Starting right winger Mitch Wilson recently renewed for two more seasons.
