Brazil, Canada and Chile to contest Trilingual Tournament in October

Brazil, Canada and Chile are to contest a triangual tournament in October. Branded as the Americas Rugby Trophy, the tournament is to be half of the former Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). The three teams will compete in matches on October 16-26 in Brazil.

Brazil will play Chile in the tournament opener on October 16. The home side will also play in the final match which will be on October 26 against Canada. In between Canada will face Chile on October 21.

The three matches will be uncapped. ARN understands that Brazil and Chile wanted to play in capped matches but Canada did not. The result is that the teams will take to the field as the Brazil XV, Canada XV and Chile XV.

For Brazil the Americas Rugby Trophy marks an overdue return to home matches with access to the public. Brazil’s home match against Paraguay in 2021 was played behind closed doors. Os Tupis previous home match was in 2019 against the Barbarians in São Paulo.

The three teams are to subsequently play test matches in November. The official scheduling is currently being finalized. The RWC 2023 qualified Chile are to play in Europe while Brazil and Canada are also expected to play in tours.
