NOLA extends versatile back Aaron Matthews

NOLA Gold have agreed a contract extension with versatile back Aaron Matthews through the 2024 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old USA age-grade international was acquired from the Seattle Seawolves prior to the 2022 campaign.

Injuries limited the impact of Matthews this past year to just 8 games. A two-time Collegiate All-American while at St. Mary’s, he impressed with two late-season starts at inside center. Matthews has also appeared on the wing and is capable of playing across the backline.

The Gold have now re-signed seven players during the off-season and have 15 returnees publicly contracted for 2023. New arrivals confirmed to date include halfbacks Luke Campbell and Rodney Iona, winger James Vaifale, and four players selected in last month’s Collegiate Draft.
