Austin bids farewell to Isaac Ross and Jamie Mackintosh

Austin’s future in Major League Rugby remains cloudy but two former All Black forwards have already departed. Second row Isaac Ross and forwards coach Jamie Mackintosh have moved on to join clubs in Japan and New Zealand respectively.

Ross has signed on with Top East B League side AZ-Momotaro’s, returning to the country where he spent the best part of a decade beginning in 2011. The 37-year-old was an integral part of Austin’s success over the past two seasons and a dominant lineout jumper with 24 appearances.

Mackintosh, also 37, called time on his playing career after two seasons in the No1 shirt for the AG’s. This past season saw him take up an assistant role under Sam Harris. He will now act as set piece coach for the Hurricanes in the upcoming Super Rugby campaign.
