Pumas vs Springboks moved across town in Buenos Aires

The upcoming Rugby Championship match between Argentina and South Africa has been relocated across town in Buenos Aires. The match was scheduled to be played at the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield but has been moved to the Estadio Libertadores de América. The date and kick-off remain as previously scheduled.

The change comes following an inspection of the playing surface at the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield. It was concluded that the conditions on the field fall short of the requirements in order for the test match to be played. The field had been in excellent conditions several days prior but deteriorated following a concert from USA rockband Green Day.

The Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR) made the decision to therefore make the change. Argentina will thus play host to the world champions at the Club Atlético Independiente, in Avellaneda.

The venue has never hosted a Rugby Championship before. It was used as a home match for Los Pumas against the French Barbarians in 2011. It is to become the third venue in Buenos Aires used for the Rugby Championship. Prior matches have been played at Vélez Sarsfield and in La Plata.
