Dallas names Agustín Cavalieri as new Head Coach

Dallas have unveiled their new Head Coach for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. Agustín Cavalieri joins the Jackals from Italy, where he was Forwards Coach of the national men’s u20 side. Originally from Rosario in Argentina, this is the first leading role for the 39-year-old nicknamed ‘Cuca’.

Cavalieri enjoyed a long career as a professional, representing Los Pumitas up to u21 level before making the move to France in 2003. He spent one year with with Arras and Limoges before moving to Italy with L’Aquila, followed by six years with Petrarca Padova and a brief spell at Prato before joining Calvisano in 2013. Italy ‘A’ selection was achieved in both the 2009 and 2010 World Cup Nations Cup tournaments.

He had been employed as a player-coach with Calvisano, and when retirement as a player finally came in 2019 he quipped “I’m tired of being the oldest player on the team, I’d like to start being the youngest coach.” Cavalieri steps into the vacancy left by the departure of Elaine Vassie, who held the dual role of General Manager and Head Coach in 2022. Fellow Argentine Santiago Sodini is the team’s new GM.
