Josh Thiel will join twin brother Jake on the Canada Sevens roster in Los Angeles next weekend for the final stop on the 2021-2022 World Sevens Series. The San Diego Legion midfielder has one test cap in the 15-a-side game but has yet play in the shortened code.
There are three changes in all from the side that finished 7th at the Commonwealth Games. Thiel is joined by Elias Ergas and Thomas Isherwood. Nick Allen and Matthew Oworu are unavailable while Elias Hancock misses out. Others ruled out of contention due to injury or illness include Noah Bain, Jarvis Dashkewytch, Brennig Prevost, and David Richard.
Canada have been drawn in the toughest pool of the competition along with New Zealand, South Africa, and hosts USA. Despite being in 14th place and just three points ahead of 15th-place Wales, Canada are not in danger of relegation following the decision to enter Great Britain on the circuit next year in place of England, Scotland, and Wales.
